Long Lasting Telehandler Tires

Using the right telehandler tire for the job is important for maximizing the ROI on your machine. Looking for telehandler tires that feature serviceability, damage resistance, and quality materials in a tire is important to mitigate costs.

Damage Resistance

Damage resistance is important to determine how long a tire will last. Solid telehandler tires are your best bet. Pneumatic telehandler tires are vulnerable to punctures and flats which are costly to replace. Foam-filled telehandler tires, which are pneumatic tires filled with foam instead of air, aren’t vulnerable to punctures. However, will go flat due to sidewall damage.

Solid telehandler tires don’t have this issue. They are made with solid rubber that uses apertures n the rubber for compression and shock absorption. Being built in this way means they don’t have the capability of going flat.

Serviceability

Serviceability is a tire is important to determine how well your tire performs throughout its lifespan. When most telehandler tires are damaged, there is no way to repair them. You have to go to the tire shop, get them repaired, pay the labor and downtime costs, and may still need to replace them. Even when a solid tire is damaged it needs to be completely replaced.

A segmented option will provide the most serviceability for the operator. Segmented tires are composed of rubber segments that attach to the rim. In the case of the EWRS-TH Series, it does this through a series of nuts and bolts. With a segmented system like this, an operator is able to remove and replace a single segment if it gets damaged beyond repair within minutes. Replacing a segment cuts the cost of replacing a prematurely damaged tire significantly.

When the tread is completely worn on the tire, the operator is able to replace the segments with a new set themselves on the job site. Using a segmented option will cut downtime due to damaged tires and keep you running.

Quality Materials

When looking for a tire it is important for performance as well as longevity. A tire that uses high-grade natural rubber and carbon black will resist wearing slower than other tires. Many manufacturers use lower-grade materials to cut manufacturing costs but this will affect how long your tire lasts on the job site.

The tire mixing compound is important as well for performance. Mixing compounds refer to the ingredients in the rubber that provide wear resistance, flexibility, and UV protection. Higher quality materials will add to the cost of the tire but will pay off in the long run as they limit replacement costs.
